The former head coach of Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, told journalists about his relationship with Karim Benzema, who won the Ballon d’Or yesterday, October 17.
“I’m practically Benzema’s older brother. This is how we address each other: younger brother and older brother. We have almost the same past. He’s from Lyon, I’m from Marseille. In the beginning, we both went through a difficult path. We were simple boys from the suburbs and dreamed of becoming professional footballers. We achieved this at the cost of a lot of hard work.
There are many things that unite us, including our origins. Our families are from neighboring Algerian villages.
When I became the coach of Real Madrid, I enjoyed working with Karim. I gave advice, but he was already an established player,” Zidane was quoted as saying by L’Equipe.
