The legendary Brazilian football player Pele will be buried on January 3. His former club Santos is spreading the information about the recall ceremony with the “King of Football”.
On January 2, Pele will be transferred from the hospital where he died to the stadium “Villa Belmiro” in the city of Santos. The palace will be placed in the center of the square, and the dedication ceremony will start at 10 am and will last all day. The ceremony will be open to the public, although access to the palace will be prohibited.
At the farewell ceremony, Pele will be honored by Brazilian government officials, public figures, current and former athletes, among others.
The procession will then proceed through the streets of Santos to the Necrópole Ecumênica cemetery, where Pele will be buried. Only family members and close people of the “King of Football” will attend the funeral ceremony.
Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest vertical cemetery in the world. Pele himself bought a place in this cemetery, which is presented in the form of a 32-story building - 19 years ago.
The legendary Brazilian football player died on December 29 at the age of 82. According to the official bulletin of the Albert Einstein Clinic, the cause of Pele’s death was colon cancer and complications from it.
Pele, who played for the Brazilian Santos (1956-1947) and the New York Cosmos (1975-1977), became the world champion three times as part of the Brazilian national team - in 1958, 1962 and 1970, and is the only player in history to do so. Pele, with 1,279 goals scored during his career, is included in the Guinness Book of Records.
