Qatar to Italy: Semi-automatic offside system to be introduced in Serie A

On December 19, the Italian Football Federation announced an innovation in the country’s most prestigious league.

Specifically, the issue is that Serie A will introduce new technology used in the 2022 World Cup, which will make it easier to detect offside situations. The semi-automatic system was originally supposed to be implemented on January 4, immediately after the resumption of the championship, but it will come into force on January 27, that is, from the 20th round of matches, and will be operational for the second half of Serie A.

The optical tracking system detects the movement of players and the ball more quickly and accurately, and it is much easier and time-saving to determine whether an offside situation should be recorded in a particular episode.

For the first time, the mentioned system was tested at the World Club Championship held in Abu Dhabi in February 2022, then at the Arab Cup, and world football fans saw it at the World Cup in Qatar, which ended a few days ago.
