The head coach of the Spanish national team, Luis Enrique, evaluated the lost match against Japan:
“Nothing happens and suddenly, in five minutes, we completely lose control over the situation, we even start panicking. If Japan needed to score two more goals, they would have done so. It’s the World Cup and when a team like Japan has nothing to lose, what happened today happens.
When the opponent decided to play defense again, we regained control of the match, we tried to do our best, but Japan came out on top and deservedly so. I am angry because I wanted the first place. This should be a warning for us,” said Enrique.
In the last round of the group stage of the World Cup, Spain lost to Japan 1:2 and went to the round of 16 with the second place.
Luis Enrique’s opponent in the playoffs will be the Moroccan team.
