The head coach of the German national team, Hans-Dieter Flick, spoke about being stuck in the World Cup group:
“I entered the dressing room, but I haven’t talked to the players yet. Everyone is disappointed. We had a lot of opportunities in the first half, but we couldn’t use them.
I don’t care about other teams, everything depends on us. We had many chances in the first half of the match against Spain. It was necessary to use this and score a goal, and then everything would be different.
I’m disappointed, but we were able to get back into the match, Havertz gave us energy. We return home victorious.
The German national team, despite the victory against Costa Rica, remained outside the playoffs of the World Cup.
Japan took the first place in Group E with 6 points, Spain took the second position (4 points), Germany took the third place (4 points), and Costa Rica took the fourth place (3 points).
We could beat Spain. That would have been ideal, but it didn’t work out for us. We fulfilled our duty because we won, however, the result could have been better,” said Flick.
